Hey, Obama, How About Freeing the Nearly 100,000 Drug War Victims in US Prisons?

With President Barack Obama announcing Monday the commutation of the sentences of 46 US government prisoners, Reuters calculates that the president “has now commuted the sentences of 89 prisoners, the vast majority of whom were nonviolent drug offenders who applied for clemency under an initiative the White House began in April 2014.” The freeing of any drug war victims is reason for celebrations. Yet, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons 95,265 people (48.7% of all federal prison inmates) are in US government prisons for drug convictions. How about freeing them all?

Whataburger's Gun Discrimination Is Good For Liberty

Next January it becomes legal in Texas to openly carry firearms in public places. The burger chain Whataburger has decided that it will not allow open carry of firearms in its restaurants. Is it OK for Whataburger to discriminate against its customers? Of course, says Ron Paul in today's Liberty Report. We discriminate in literally every action we take. The real issue is one of property rights, not guns or wedding cakes.

According to the newly released Military Strategy of the United States, 2015, the real threats are no longer the terrorism of non-state actors but rather Russia, China, Iran, and any other state that challenges US global hegemony. Army Troop Cuts - A Propaganda Ploy?

Press reports that the US Army would cut 40,000 troops are meant to terrify the American people into demanding an increase in military spending - even though the US spends more than all developed countries combined. Today's Ron Paul Liberty Report on the false propaganda of a shrinking military...

Ron, movingly and eloquently, describes his lifetime of perpetual war, beginning with the horrific WWII, but shows us how to dream of, and achieve, a future free of war and other forms of state violence.

Greeks Vote No: Keynesian Crisis Continues

Greece's vote against the EU bailout offer raises as many questions as it answers. What happens next? We know the debt will not disappear. On today's Liberty Report, Ron Paul offers his suggestions for a way out of the Greek crisis...

Will Texas Nix Marriage Licensing? Yes — if Rep. David Simpson Gets His Way

Texas state Rep. David Simpson (R-Longview) has an intriguing response to Obergefell v. Hodges, the United States Supreme Court decision imposing a national mandate to override the diverse ways in which state governments deal with same sex marriage. Simpson is asking Texas Governor Greg Abbott to declare a special session of the state legislature to consider Simpson’s proposal that Texas end marriage licensing in the state.

Simpson’s radical response to the court’s decision should not be too surprising given that earlier this year he responded to the war on marijuana with a bill that would eliminate all Texas laws regarding marijuana so the plant would be treated the same as tomatoes, jalapeños, or coffee. Also, back in 2011, Simpson responded to the US Transportation Security Administration’s frisking of travelers with legislation that would hold TSA employees accountable for such actions under state assault prohibitions.
