After the violence in Charlottesville last week, the Pentagon took the unusual step of publicly denouncing the racial bigotry of the neo-Nazis who participated in the violent rallies. The Pentagon has had a good record of helping integrate Americans even in the dark days of government-enforced Jim Crow laws. But at nearly the same time that Pentagon top brass was making this denunciation it was preparing to ship millions of dollars of weapons to a Ukrainian government dominated by outright Nazis and Nazi sympathizers. President Donald Trump is expected to deliver a speech tonight in which he announces the deployment of more United States troops to Afghanistan to take part in America’s longest war.
