Don’t Put Your Faith in Apple, Judges, or Congress to Protect Your Privacy

If we put our faith in technology company Apple, the United States courts, or the US Congress to protect our privacy, we may well find ourselves sorely disappointed. That is the message of Ron Paul Institute Senior Fellow Adam Dick in a newly released interview on the Wake Up Call Podcast.

Speaking with hosts Adam Camac and Daniel Laguros, Dick explores the legislative and judicial battle over whether the US government can require Apple and other companies to help the government access individuals’ private electronic information that is protected by passcodes, encryption, and other security measures.

While Apple is taking a turn as privacy hero in some recent court disputes, Dick notes the company also has a history of aiding the government in accessing private information on electronic devices.

Could An American Soon Be Prime Minister of Ukraine?

With the impending fall of US handpicked prime minister of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, it looks as if the US is about to take an even more direct role in running the country whose government it helped overthrow two years ago. Former US State Department employee Natalie Jaresko, who is currently serving as Ukraine's finance minister, is expected to be named prime minister of Ukraine by as soon as the end of this week. Previously, Jaresko managed a USAID "enterprise fund" in Ukraine capitalized with $150 million. She promptly emptied out that fund, all the while transferring millions in "fees" to an outside company she controlled. Yet we were told the whole purpose of the US-instigated "regime change" in Ukraine was to root out corruption.

Bibi Cancels Meeting With Obama, Demands More Money Instead

On his own and through his proxies in what is called the US "Israel Lobby" Benjamin Netanyahu expended enormous political and financial capital in attempt to sink President Obama's nuclear deal with Iran. Though the deal is already done, the pro-Likud lobby in Washington with the backing of a significant number of elected Members of the House and Senate is still determined to turn back the hands of time to a US war-footing against Iran. They may well succeed, particularly as most presidential candidates have promised to rip up the Iran deal on day one.

Ron Paul: Disintegration of US Empire Brings Hope for Peaceful Freedom Revolution

Empires “disintegrate from within,” and the United States will be no exception, says Ron Paul in a newly released video of his speech at a January 30 Ludwig von Mises Institute conference in Houston, Texas. While the disintegration of the US empire will certainly bring troubles for Americans, it also, Paul says, is “very encouraging.” This is because, Paul predicts, Americans will be offered in the disintegration an opportunity to move the country away from large-scale violations of liberty at home and intervention overseas via a peaceful revolt instead of literally having “to go to war with” the government.

In his presentation, Paul, who is chairman and founder of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, presents a sweeping analysis of history with references to the Assyrian Code, Ten Commandments, Magna Carta, and Declaration of Independence that can be understood as examples of an attempt to “develop a set of standards for tranquility and peace, and try to curtail power of government.” Paul also addresses a countertrend, which made great progress in the “downhill” twentieth century, involving governments increasing their power, disparaging individual rights, and pursuing war.
