US Airstrikes Kill at Least 43 Civilians in Syria’s Raqqa

New reports out of the ISIS capital city of Raqqa say US airstrikes hit a number of residential districts in the city over the course of Saturday, killing at least 43 civilians and wounding an unknown, but substantial number of others.

There was no obvious specific target for the strikes, though the US has been generally targeting ISIS forces within the city to try to back the Kurdish-led invasion. The casualties in this case, however, appear to be overwhelmingly civilians.

Pence Cheers New Russia Sanctions Bill, in Split with Trump

The Trump Administration’s continued struggle to get on the same page with one another on foreign policy messages continued today, as Vice President Mike Pence, touring Eastern Europe, issued statements praising the new Russia sanctions bill signed earlier this week.

The bill was passed by vast majorities in both the House and Senate, and signed by President Trump, though the president has since slammed the bill as the reason for worsening US-Russia relations, which he termed to be at “an all-time and very dangerous low.”

Ron Paul Fears Propaganda and False Flag Attack May Lead to War with North Korea

Interviewed Wednesday at RT, foreign nonintervention advocate and former presidential candidate Ron Paul said that “we’re hearing the same type of war propaganda” in regard to North Korea as Paul recalls hearing as a United States House of Representatives member in regard to Iraq in the run-up to the 2003 US invasion of Iraq. Who benefits from the lies? Paul points to “the people who make a lot of money off of war, not only the people who sell weapons but also the people who gather up the oil and the natural resources.”

President Trump summoned his generals and experts to the "situation room" at the White House late last month. He was furious that there was no plan to win Afghanistan and that after 16 years we were, in his words, "losing" in Afghanistan. What can be done? Some told him to send in many more troops. Others told him to pull out troops. The big mercenary companies want the war privatized to them. Perhaps the real problem is that no one knows what "winning" the war could possibly look like. No one in Washington has a clue.

Trump's US National Security Strategy - New Wine In Old Bottles?

In a recent interview, Sebastian Gorka, an aide to President Trump, denounced "stale thinking" on national security policy over the past 30 years. He said that the White House was working on a new National Security Strategy for the United States that would reject the old "extremes" of neoconservative interventionism on one hand and libertarian "isolationism" on the other. It is quite interesting that he chose to single out non-interventionism (which is not "isolationism") for criticism as if it had been attempted and failed over the past three decades. Why the strawman? Because this "new" strategy is being drawn up by neocons who dominate Trump's foreign policy and national security staff.
