Russian 'Soldiers Mothers Committees' -- a US Covert Op?

A major component in the latest western government and media claims of a Russian invasion of Ukraine is protests of the various Russian "Soldiers' Mothers Committes" over the supposed disappearance of their soldier sons in Ukraine. Absent compelling visual evidence of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, these NGOs are said to provide the evidence that, as NATO claims, 1,000 young Russians have been forced to go fight in Ukraine.

The US mainstream media has reported extensively over the past several days that these "Soldiers' Mothers Committes" are a smoking gun indicating the Russian government's military intervention in Ukraine.

About That Russian Invasion...

Day after day we hear new frantic claims of a Russian incursion into -- or now, invasion of -- Ukraine. Thousands of Russian troops are fighting in Ukraine, we are told. The "evidence" is an ambiguous satellite photo procured from a private satellite firm and offered up by a NATO whose member states surely have far more sophisticated satellite intelligence capabilities.

RPI Director Daniel McAdams is on RT to voice his skepticism regarding these new claims, particularly when they are taken together with the endless stream of discredited earlier claims by the US-backed government in Kiev. Would a Russian invasion really consist of a few troops in APV's with no air or serious artillery cover?

Ron Paul and Charles Goyette: Syria and Iraq the Fruits of Interventionism

It was only weeks ago that President Obama requested an extra $500 million dollars for Syrian rebels. Now we are told that the US must start bombing some of those rebels in Syria. The elective Bush war in Iraq for WMDs that never were is a good case history in the folly of U.S. interventionism. But the rise of ISIS is an even more compact representation of interventionism’s contradictions and failures.

Is a Nationwide Local Government Backlash Against Police Militarization Beginning?

KCRA TV is reporting that the Davis, California City Council voted Tuesday evening, after hearing from concerned people at the city council’s meeting, to get rid of the police department’s Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected military vehicle. The police department had obtained the MRAP, which is valued at nearly $700,000, for free recently from the US government.

Will Davis, California one day be seen as the beginning of a nationwide local government backlash against police militarization in the US?

Liberty Across the Board: Ron Paul vs Boston Globe on The Right to Use Heroin

The Boston Globe published this week a guest editorial arguing, as RPI Chairman and Founder Ron Paul memorably did during a 2011 Republican presidential primary debate in South Carolina, that heroin should be legalized. While the Globe editorial presents strong arguments for heroin legalization, it shies away from discussing the right to use heroin. In contrast, when asked in the debate about legalizing heroin, Paul zeroed in on individual rights, saying that protecting the right to use heroin is part of his commitment to protecting liberty “across-the-board”...

Ron Paul Challenging Government Secrecy and the “Truther” Label

Ron Paul, speaking Friday with Charles Goyette in their weekly podcast discussion, decries the trend of the US government keeping more and more information secret. Paul also laments that people trying to discover the truth — whether about the September 11, 2001 attacks on America, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, or other matters regarding which the US government is keeping much information classified and thus out of sight — are disparagingly labeled “truthers.”

Turning things upside down from our nation’s constitutional foundation, Paul notes, the US government now claims excessive secrecy for itself while subjecting Americans to a mass spying program in violation of the Fourth Amendment.

Against The Murder Machine: Daniel McAdams on the Lew Rockwell Show

The wheels are coming off the US empire, RPI Director Daniel McAdams tells Lew Rockwell today. Chaos breaks out, unintended consequenses, blowback: ISIS, Kurds, PKK, Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, Libya, and more.

In Kurdistan, the US arms the PKK, which is on its terrorist list, to fight the ISIS, which the US earlier armed and is also on the US terrorist list, McAdams points out.

Islamist Rise and The Fall of Tripoli Airport

Today Islamist fighters of the Fajr Libya (Libyan Dawn) have taken control of the international airport in Tripoli, Libya, after weeks of intense fighting.

Adding to the chaos in Tripoli, mystery war planes, possibly belonging to former Libyan general Khalifa Haftar, have repeatedly struck at Islamist positions. Haftar is widely suspected of having CIA ties, so his personal army fighting for power in Libya adds a curious dimension to the chaos.

The elected parliament of Libya has been unable to manage these attacks from both sides, pleading with the United Nations earlier this month to intervene and dismantle the various militias fighting for control of the country.

Ron Paul: The Battle is Between Liberty and Interventionism, Not Republicans and Democrats

In a Ron Paul Channel commentary on Wednesday, Ron Paul took issue with aspects of the August 7 New York Times article “Has the ‘Libertarian Moment’ Finally Arrived?” In particular, Paul argues that the article describes the growing influence of libertarianism wrongly when it pigeonholes libertarianism within the Republican Party. Instead, Paul explains, the crucial issue is Americans’ expanding understanding of libertarian ideas.

Paul explains that a shift toward libertarian ideas becoming dominant in America is arising from a change in the views of Americans and “has nothing to do really with the Republican Party.” The important battle, Paul explains, is between liberty and interventionism, not between Republicans and Democrats.
