Should Tweeting Be A Capital Offense?

The US government has assassinated at least one British citizen over his pro-ISIS Tweets, and we know they killed Al-Awlaki over his pro-al Qaeda propaganda. Currently the US Administration is discussing whether to accelerate its use of drones against those who Tweet the wrong things. More today on the Liberty Report...

'Refugees' Arrive in Munich, Hungary Demonized: What's The Endgame?

undefined

Watching live footage of the "refugees" arriving in Munich, it is difficult not to be struck by how non refugee-like they look. Many are well shod in expensive-looking western sneakers, wearing Adidas and other western name-brand clothing, fingering their smart phones. Mostly men of, as they say, fighting age. What few women we do see appear mostly fashionably dressed with healthy and happy looking babies.

It is de rigueur at the moment to express unconditional sympathy for those currently streaming in to Europe from, we are told, mostly Syria, to the point where it is probably risky to even entertain questions about the "rest of the story." Indeed, I have been among the first to write sympathetically about their plight and to lay the blame on the disastrous US-and-allies foreign policy of regime change. But it is hard to avoid this strange feeling that on many fronts this story is not exactly as it is being covered in the western mainstream media.

When one thinks of desperate refugees seeking a safe exit from a war zone, pictures like this and this and this generally come to mind. This is not to say that those landing in Germany are not legitimately fleeing a disaster area, but that there is something that seems odd about the whole thing. But of course to suggest such is to tip-toe into the dangerous waters of "conspiracy." Nevertheless, let's delve into several of the narratives...

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is risking a shoulder injury so vigorously is she patting herself on the back over accepting limitless numbers of these people.

War Drums Beating - Real Or Imagined?

Chinese ships are near Alaska, US Predator drones are near Russia in Latvia. Are the Russians going into Syria or is that just disinformation? Everywhere it seems little brushfires threaten to become conflagrations. Are we in great danger of a major war, or might things cool down? Tune in to today's Liberty Report...

Abusing Dead Syrian Children

undefined

Images are a powerful tool in the hands of propagandists. A picture is worth a thousand words, as the saying goes. If a powerful image can be manipulated to tell a tale even if false, it can persuade more viscerally than can a thousand reasoned arguments.

So it is with the tragic photograph making the mainstream media rounds yesterday of a lone Syrian child drowned on a Turkish shore. Reams of articles can be written about the current refugee crisis but particularly in the US they will go relatively unnoticed by those not directly affected. There may be some video clips on the nightly news but overall the story -- and particularly the context -- will go unexplained.

But the powerful image of a dead child, abandoned by the world on the capricious sway of the tide, is putty in the hands of propagandists.

And proponents of the four-year US policy of Syrian destabilization and regime change are lining up to make their case that the current refuge crisis -- now swamping Europe with Syrians desperate for something approaching a normal life -- is one hundred percent the fault of both Syrian president Assad and the western non-interventionists who objected to plans in 2013 for the US and UK to begin bombing Syria.

Refugee Crisis - Demise Of The EU?

Thousands of refugees and migrants are streaming into Europe -- mostly Hungary -- on a daily basis. Transportation has ground to a halt in Hungary as they are swarming the trains in attempt to get to Austria and Germany. Where are they escaping from? Countries like Syria and Libya where the US and EU have bombed and promoted violent regime change. Will the media blame the interventionists for creating this mass-scale human tragedy? Don't count on it. More on the crisis and what it means for Europe in today's Liberty Report...

ISIS Gold Standard: Will it Work?

A bizarre new video purportedly released by ISIS features archival clips from several prominent Austrian and free-market economics thinkers, including Ron Paul, discussing the Federal Reserve and the end of the dollar. Is this some sort of anti-gold propaganda, meant to suggest that anyone questioning the current Federal Reserve central banking system is on board with ISIS? Or is ISIS looking at the collapse of the dollar as a "second 9/11" as is said in the video. More on this very strange development in today's Liberty Report...

Sanders' Foreign Policy - Not Antiwar

Senator Bernie Sanders has a growing following, particularly among progressives. While one may think progressives tend to oppose the US militaristic foreign policy, Sanders' record on war is not as consistent as some would have us believe. In the Middle East his positions, as explained recently to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, are quite bizarre: support Saudi Arabia's push for regional domination. The Saudis would seem an unlikely partner for a progressive -- considering the kingdom's record on civil rights and its support for proxy wars in Syria and elsewhere. More about the Sanders bait and switch in today's Liberty Report...

'Unprivileged Belligerents' - The US War On Journalists

The Defense Department's new Law of War manual, which provides guidance to military commanders in time of war, advises that journalists they consider "unprivileged belligerents" can be either removed from military facilities or even detained indefinitely without charge. The problem is we are in an endless, undeclared war and the provision is sufficiently vague to potentially include any effective critic of US military action. Today's Ron Paul Liberty Report looks at this disturbing new development...

Who Tipped Off Al-Qaeda in Syria?

McClatchy News Service reports this week that it was the Turkish government who tipped off al-Qaeda in Syria that a group of US-backed "moderate" fighters were about to enter the country. The "moderates" were immediately captured or killed upon stepping over the border. The Turkish and US government deny the story, which probably makes it more likely to be true. US and Turkish policy clash at several key areas when it comes to Syria. Today's Liberty Report takes a look at the disastrous US regime change policy in Syria...

Markets Crash - Is China to Blame?

Yesterday's market crash shocked many in the financial world. Today comes the blame game, with several Republican hopefuls calling out China as being behind US economic woes. One candidate suggested that President Obama cancel the upcoming state visit of the Chinese president, while another spoke openly of the need for a trade war with China. The big danger with all this saber rattling toward China is that a trade war or a war of words can easily spill over into an actual war. Today's Ron Paul Liberty Report looks at the populist protectionism that threatens to further sour US/Chinese relations...
